Public Safety
Brad Jacobs, Director of Public SafetyUnder the general direction of the Mayor, the Director of Public Safety exercises the highest possible degree of leadership, authority, judgment, and discretion in the oversight of Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services Department, and Building Department functions and operations (i.e., patrol, investigations, communications, crime prevention, jail operations, juvenile diversion, traffic & parking enforcement, safety & security, fire fighting, efficient medical services, building safety, efficient use of personnel, and all other activities necessary to fulfill their missions). The Director of Public Safety confers with the Mayor on all matters of major significance or importance regarding the Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services Department, and the Building Department. The Director of Public Safety directly supervises the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, EMS Chief, and Chief Building Inspector. The Director of Public Safety attends meetings of City Council and the Safety Committee as directed by the Mayor.
