Q: There is no sidewalk in front of my house. How do I get one?

A: If yours is one of the few on the street without sidewalks, you must pay to have one constructed. If your entire street is without walks, you and your neighbors may petition the city to install them as an assessment project.

Q: I would like to have some trees between the walk and street. Do I need permission to plant them?

A: Yes, because trees can become a problem if not properly selected, installed or maintained, city permission is required. However, the city encourages street trees and will make every effort to accomodate your request.

Q: The rest of the houses on my street do not have sidewalks, when I build a new house, do I have to install a walk?

A: If the street has curbs, yes. If the street does not have curbs, the City will review the site and make a determination. All new buildings on curbed streets must have walks.
